These are abbreviations I have learned in class.
The Acronyms
IT =Information technology is the use of any computers, storage,
networking and other physical devices, infrastructure and processes to create,
process, store, secure and exchange all forms of electronic data.
ICT =Information and Communications Technology is an umbrella term that includes any
communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular
phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so
on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such
as videoconferencing and distance learning.
CAI = Computer Assisted Instruction is an
interactive instructional technique whereby a computer is used to present the
instructional material and monitor the learning that takes place. CAI uses a
combination of text, graphics, sound and video in enhancing the learning
process. The computer has many purposes in the classroom, and it can be
utilized to help a student in all areas of the curriculum.
CALL = Computer-Assisted Language Learning is the search for and study of
applications of the computer in language teaching and learning.
CMC = Computer-Mediated Communication is a process in which human data interaction
occurs through one or more networked telecommunication systems.
TELL = Technology-Enhanced
Language Learning refers to the use of
the computer as a technological innovation to display multimedia as a means of
complementing a teaching method langauge teachers.
WBI = Web - based Instruction is
teaching and learning supported by the attributes and resources of the
Internet.
MUDs = Multi - User Dungeon is a multiplayer
real-time virtual world, usually text-based.
MOOs = Multiple Domain Object Oriented is a
text-based online virtual reality system to which multiple users (players) are
connected at the same time.
